EDAIC part-1 2022

As the registration date for EDAIC part-1 2022 is announced, the plethora of unanswered questions in the minds of examinees is at its peak. We, at targetedaic, understand the utter confusion confronted by all of you; having faced it all ourselves. However, while there was little help for us in past, we strive to make your journey as non-confusing as we can and have decided to come up with this FAQ list aimed at answering the most daunting and unanswered questions about the EDAIC-MCQ exam to be held in September 2022.

Question 1: When will the registrations begin?

Registrations will open on 05 April 2022

Part I 2022 will take place on 10th September 2022.

EDAIC 1 will be paper-based only. THERE ARE NO ONLINE CENTRES.

Question 2: What all is needed for registration?

For successful submission of your application for EDAIC part-1 2022, you should follow the following steps

  1. Register at www.esaic.org
  2. Follow the earlier blog by targeredaic for step-by-step guidance for registration. Click here to read the blog.
  3. Documents required: ESAIC recommends that you make sure that you have prepared the relevant document(s) for upload before clicking the registration link
    • Copy of your medical diploma written in its original language.
    • In case your medical diploma is not written in one of the languages used in the EDAIC Part I or EDAIC Part II examinations, you also need to upload a certified English translation of your diploma.
    • If the name written on your diploma is different from the name you submit when registering, you also need to upload an official proof of your name change.
  4. Passport and Visas:
    1. Each candidate taking the examination abroad is responsible for having a valid passport as the centres are distributed across multiple countries.
    2. Applications for a visa should be handled at the same time as the registration for the examination. Refund requests for refused visas will not be accepted by ESAIC

Question 3: Do I qualify for EDAIC part-1?

Candidates who wish to enrol for part-1 must have

  • Valid primary medical qualification
  • Should be an anaesthesia trainee
  • Although a postgraduate degree is not required for EDAIC Part-1, you should make sure that you will have your post-graduation completed before applying for EDAIC part-2 (mandatory)
  • ESAIC recommends at least 3 years of post-graduate training before attempting part-1 and 5 years for part-2. However, these are recommendations and not mandatory for attempting the examination.

Question 4: What are the exam centres offered?

EDAIC part-1 is available in an on-paper format for 2022. A list of offered centres can be read here.

Remember to log in and book your centre at the earliest as these centres have limited capacity and are available a first-come-first-serve basis only.

Question 5: Can I change the centre at a later date?

  • You must change your centre before the registration deadline,
  • Your registration will have to be cancelled and the €50 administration fee will apply
  • You will then have to register online again before the registration deadline.
  • However, this is to be done at your own risk as the ESAIC cannot guarantee the availability of seats in other centres.
  • No change of centre is allowed after the registration deadline

Question 6: What are the fees for EDAIC part-1 2022?

Part I fee(1)€340 (incl. 1-year ESAIC membership)

Question 7: What is the exam pattern and expected syllabus?

Pattern:

  • The Part I examination comprises two multiple choice question (MCQ) papers.
  • Each paper has sixty questions and is of two hours duration (or 90 minutes if the examination is taken on a computer).
  • The MCQ format is based on multiple true false options.
  • Each question has 5 options and each one must be marked (T/F)
  • For sample questions and answers, click here.

Expected Syllabus:

The EDAIC aims at covering the Syllabus for the Postgraduate Training Programme of the European Board of Anaesthesiology.

Question 8: How much time do I need for the preparation and what books do I need to consult?

ESAIC recommends the following resources as a reading list for EDAIC exam preparation.

However, I must warn you that the list is too exhaustive and virtually impossible to cover. You need to focus on exam-oriented topics and cover them in detail.

Detailed discussion on all aspects of EDAIC can be read on the WHAT TO EXPECT page from targetedaic. The following is the minimum that should be read and revised thoroughly before attempting the EDAIC part-1 examination.

  1. Fundamentals of anaesthesia by Collin Pinnock/Tim smith. This is a must-read. It is the most important resource for those who want to do a thorough reading and concept grabbing. Respiratory, CNS, Cardiology, Renal, and Pharmacology are some of the must-cover topics. Rest depends upon the time available for preparation and can be read from other less tedious resources.
  2. Q base 2,4,6
  3. Getting through FRCA
  4. A book of your choice for clinical anaesthesia – Morgan, Barash, etc, which you have already read, and are comfortable with. You can choose to read all topics from here and skip Fundamentals of Anesthesia, without major loss.
  5. Recent updates on hot topics like sepsis, ventilation in ARDS, renal failure, nutrition, LAST, Anaphylaxis, etc.

Our opinion is to dedicate 6 to 8 hours every day for studying, and you should start 4-6 months before the anticipated exam date. By the time of your exam, you should be on your 4th revision. Persistence and perseverance are the most important requisites.

Question 9: Is there any dedicated resource for EDAIC examinees?

www.targetedaic.com has been striving hard to make this platform a one-stop solution for your EDAIC journey, from registration to getting your diploma in hand. However, it takes a lot of effort and time to compile a piece of comprehensive yet non-exhaustive information surrounding all aspects of the exam.

Until now, candidates aspiring to give EDAIC can

  1. Take part in mock-tests: upon submission of the test, the answer sheet and explanations are mailed to all candidates. The two mock tests cover most of the asked topics in recent EDAIC examinations and can be invaluable in gauging your preparation and identifying the areas that you work on to attempt this examination successfully.

2. Download topic-wise modules: these modules are based on the exam pattern followed by EDAIC and cover the required depth. These are profusely supplemented by diagrams and flowcharts that makes the material very simple to understand and retain. The available modules include

  • Cardiac module (entire module or small chapter wise modules are available)
  • ECG (includes discussion about abnormal ECG patterns and management)
  • Radiology (includes Xray, CT scan, MRI and USG discussions)
  • Statistics
  • Physics (part-1)

3. Join our Facebook and Whatsapp discussion groups to stay updated to all that’s happening around EDAIC.

Question 10: Are previous exam papers available online?

ESAIC has provided candidates with a sample paper with answers on their website that can be viewed here. Apart from this, the organisation does not allow reproduction of any part of the exam paper and can impose penalties on anyone found to be in possession of the exam-related material.

Got more questions! Don’t hesitate to ask in the comment section below. We will try and answer each one asap.

Good luck to one and all.
