Explanation:

Differences between paediatric and adult airway:

  1. Large head, prominent occiput, short neck and small mandible ( vulnerability to obstruction with neck extension)
  2. The larynx is located at the level of C3-5 as against C5-6 in adults
  3. Epiglottis is large, long, U-shaped, slops posteriorly. (straight blade offers better visualisation)
  4. The narrowest part is cricoid cartilage as against vocal cords in adults (uncuffed tubes are preferred in young children and a small leak is allowed around the cuff to prevent tracheal wall necrosis)
  5. Smaller trachea (4 cm in neonates) increases the likelihood of endobronchial intubation
  6. Both the bronchi are at the same angle (45⁰) as compared an acute angulation of R bronchus  (25⁰)in adults

For each paper, you will have a prefixed time slot of 2 hours (just like the real exam). After the submission, your score will be mailed to you with explanations (if you had opted for the test + explanation).
